It is mandatory for a new member to register their mobile number when signing up for the first time with the EPFO portal. The UAN is a unique number assigned to every EPFO member who contributes to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme. The UAN remains the same even when employees change organizations.

How to activate mobile number in EPF UAN account online:
# Go to the EPFO Member portal https://www.epfindia.gov.in.
# Select “Activate UAN” present on the right side of the screen under the “Important Links” option.
# Enter your UAN number, name, date of birth, email ID and mobile number.
# After entering the details, hit the “Get Authorization Pin” button.
# You will receive an OTP on your mobile number.
# Submit the given OTP to activate the UAN. This way, the mobile number will get registered with the EPF account too.
# On UAN activation, you will receive a password on your registered mobile number to access your account.
After the mobile number is registered with the UAN, you will begin receiving all SMS communications from EPFO. A member can avail of a number of services online as well as through the SMS service or the Umang app.
